The New Salem Civic Association has a long tradition of membership:    The beautiful drawing which decorates our Directory cover and other communications, was designed by a past New Salem resident, Russell Gale.  Mr. Gale was a noted commercial artist who moved into 5 Alden Lane in 1940, and he and his family lived there until 1972.  Russ created the original etching, showing our entry pillar and over the years he added seasonal drawings for various newsletters to the neighborhood.  Mr. Gale passed away in 1991 at the age of 80, but he is remembered with our continued use of his rendering of our New Salem pillars.
