I hope this e-mail finds you well. I am writing to inform you of two important meetings coming up in January. The Town will be considering zoning legislation banning the commercial sale of marijuana in any zone in North Hempstead. Should NYS legalize recreational marijuana, the legislation would prohibit the retail sale of marijuana, and would prevent a retail marijuana store from opening up anywhere in the Town. However, the legislation will not impact personal use of marijuana by any resident in North Hempstead should NYS legalize recreational marijuana. Also, the legislation does not affect the sale or distribution of medicinal marijuana in the Town. The public hearing on the proposed legislation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 8th at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall.
Manhasset CASA is hosting an informational meeting on January 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the Manhasset Library to provide information and answer questions about the potential public health issues of marijuana, particularly as it relates to teens between 12 and 17 years old. More details about the event, including the proposed speaker, will be shared when they are available.
